College Scholarships and Community

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS  —  The Aurora Saracens have initiated a fund that will distribute $4,000 per year in scholarships for attendance at a college or a trade school.  The recipient will be chosen by the coaches and the award will be based on the player’s academic record and leadership during practices and games.  Click here for details of the James Wilson Reed Scholarship

The Saracens have also started the Rory MacWilliam Memorial Scholarship.  $1,000 for college or a trade school will be awarded annually to the player who best exhibits the traits that Rory promoted: welcoming new players to the team, mentoring less experienced players, maintaining a positive attitude on and off the field, and dedication to the team and the sport.  Click here for details of the Rory MacWilliam Memorial Scholarship

COMMUNITY

The Saracens are more than just a team.  We are a club that believes in giving back and contributing to our community.

We have been part of the annual Aurora Police Department’s “Cops, Coats and Kids” campaign for the last several years.  Our coaches mentor at risk youths (regardless of whether they play rugby) and have volunteered both time and money to various charitable organizations throughout the area.   Our players have volunteered their afternoons to spend time with numerous patients at Children’s Hospital, which is a program we will continue to build on and encourage going forward.

Our coaches and our organization value education and realize how essential a good education is to leading a good life.  That’s why we support and maintain the following programs in our organization:

Tutoring – If a player comes to us with a need for help in an academic subject, we will work to get them that help.

College counseling – we will provide help in finding colleges that provide rugby scholarships and admission preferences

Joining the Saracens will not only improve athletic skills and teamwork, but also contribute towards the community in which you live.
