This is the Home of Aurora Saracens Prep Rugby and Aurora Youth Rugby
We are a Club sport that welcomes anyone that is interested in learning the great sport of rugby. We compete in the twenty-four team Rugby Colorado league. 2021 will be the 35th season for the Aurora Saracens Rugby Club. There is a rich tradition of rugby in Aurora including having won State High School Championships and tournaments as well as appearances in six of the last eight Final Fours. The Saracens have placed dozens of players on the ERRFU (Colorado) Under 19 Select Side team as well as a handful of USA U-19 Players and USA U-19 Eagles.
What is Rugby?
Rugby is the second most popular sport in the World (next to soccer), an Olympic Sport, and played around the world. It offers more professional playing opportunities than the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB combined. It developed from soccer back in England at the Rugby School in 1823. It was the precursor to American football. It’s a rugged sport but studies show it to be much safer than football, and on a par with soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and hockey for injuries. It is a sport where everyone gets an opportunity to run with the ball, score, and tackle. It has a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendship that is unique to the game.
Who Can Play?
Anyone can play! Don’t worry about a lack of experience; the game is extremely easy to learn. Every year about half of our team is new to rugby and learning the game from scratch. These players quickly learn the game and become starters. Our coaches are oriented towards teaching new people the game. In addition, they’ve attended multiple teaching clinics and been certified by USA Rugby, and have won three of the last six Colorado Coach of the Year Awards. In 2010, the Saracens coaches won the United States Olympic Committee’s National Volunteer Coach of the Year Award (click here for details)
Aurora Saracens Prep Rugby Club is open to all high school boys ages 14-19. We are currently comprised mainly of students from the Aurora and Centennial areas. If you are interested in Youth Rugby for boys and girls ages 5-15, please go to our Youth Rugby page
Who Should Play?
Anyone who thinks it would be fun to be part of the most team and sportsmanship oriented game on the planet. Anyone who thinks it would be fun to be part of a winning program and in the running for a State Championship every year. Anyone who thinks it would be fun to play a sport where they get an equal chance at running with the ball, scoring, and tackling. Rugby is an excellent sport for all, that complements football, wrestling, basketball, soccer, and many other sports.
